No Escape

I guess my shine has worn off
It always does
It never takes long
I’m not gold
Not solid gold
I’m not even silver
Once people really see through me
It’s always the same
I carry a sadness that can infect others
I have a melancholy madness that exasperates
I know me better than I think I do
It’s far wiser to isolate
Stay away, keep your distance
For me I cannot ever escape myself

England produced a stunning performance in Rome and emerged 4-0 winners over Ukraine to set up a semi-final at Wembley against Denmark on Wednesday.

Harry Kane opened the scoring after only four minutes with a clinical finish following great work from Raheem Sterling, England’s standout player at the tournament.

Ukraine came back into it as the first half wore on but any fears were allayed almost immediately after the break when Harry Maguire powerfully headed home Luke Shaw’s exquisite free-kick.

Harry Kane added his second and England’s third five minutes after the break following some clever interplay between Mason Mount and Sterling. The ball eventually came to Shaw and his pinpoint cross was headed home by Kane.

England added a fourth when Jordan Henderson scored his first England goal after more than a decade of trying. He met Mason Mount’s corner and directed the ball across the keeper and into the net.

The few England fans inside the Stadio Olimpico were in a party mood for the bulk of the second half as their side has its best chance in living memory of winning a major trophy.

Fifties Child

Barclay James Harvest

Love was a lesson we tried to learn
There were no exams to pass or fail
Only heartbreaks, renew our faith
Life was a lesson we’ve tried to learn
There were no tests to pass, no license to gain
Only win or lose, renew our faith

Renew our faith, let us see
Fifties child was right to believe
Peace and love were our needs
The need to be free

War is a lesson we’ve had to learn
We had to learn to kill, to destroy and burn
But our spirits cry, renew our faith
Peace is a lesson we’ve yet to learn
A prize for all mankind who race for the gain
Of love and harmony, renew our faith

Renew our faith, let us see
Fifties child was right to believe
Peace and love were our needs
The need to be free

Renew our faith, let us see
Young and old we’re right to believe
Peace and love are our needs
The need to be free

Mr Cross

Cooing out around the world
Are you ready for food to eat?
For mornings here and the time is right
For feeding and it’s neat
There’ll be feathers flaying
And white bread sailing
And we can dance upon the roof
Oh it doesn’t matter what you are
Just as long as you are there
Crow, jackdaw, Pigeon or dove
The time is right for the food of love
And we’ll be dancing
Dancing on the roof
Yes we’ll be dancing
Dancing on the roof
